The Japan Meteorological Agency has announced that late January-end of February will be warmer than usual.
Honshu mainland which includes Nagano and Niigata will be experiencing warmer temperatures than usual, while Hokkaido will relatively have typical temperatures.
It warns to be aware and careful of a more frequent avalanche as this year had a lot more snowfall in the previous months than the usual years.
The La Nina that resulted in heavy snowfall during the previous months are still expected to continue till spring.
But It is expected for the temperatures to rise to moderate/warmer than typical years.
Snowfall especially along the Japan Sea is expected to be heavier, so for skiers and boarders, we still have some fun days ahead. A few cold waves are expected to pass Hokkaido, Nigata, and Nagano which will bring a lot of fresh powder to the resorts!
The Japan Meteorological Agency warns snowsports riders to be very careful of avalanche especially at the end of January, as temperatures are expected to be warm.
It also predicts that beginning February will have colder days, so it might be a better idea to call it a rest week through the final week of January, and prepare back in good shape for a cold wave to pass during February.
Helping Dragon will be making updates every month of snow forecasts during winter, so we hope you follow us for good information going forward!
